The Zodiac Watch Ads

The Zodiac symbol was used for the first time in the letters mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, and Vallejo Times-Herald at the end of July, 1969.

The reference to the name "Zodiac" ("This is the Zodiac speaking") was used for the first time in the letter to the San Francisco Examiner at the beginning of August, 1969.

For years, it has been speculated that the Zodiac watch made by Fossil, Inc. was the inspiration for the name and symbol used by the Zodiac.
