Celebrity Cypher postcard

The Celebrity Cypher was postmarked September 25, 1990.

Some researchers have wondered whether or not the writer of the Celebrity Cypher was the Zodiac.

In 2019, Rubislaw32 found a copy of the postcard which was used to send the Celebrity Cypher.

For some reason, the image of the front of the postcard was not publicly available prior to this discovery by Rubislaw32.

Perhaps this image will provide a clue that will lead to finding out who was the writer of the Celebrity Cypher.

Did the writer of the Celebrity Cypher deliberately choose this particular postcard because it specifically referred to "Sandy Beaches"?

It is open to speculation because there was the individual who was known as "Sandy" who may or may not have committed the murders of Robert George Domingos and Linda Faye Edwards at Gaviota Beach in 1963.

Deciphering
the
Celebrity Cypher

Celebrity Cypher postcard

The Celebrity Cypher has been suggested as a possible message from the Zodiac.

The writer of the Celebrity Cypher is unknown.

The Celebrity Cypher was mailed on a postcard to the Vallejo Times-Herald from Oakland, California on September 25, 1990.

The Celebrity Cypher was inspired by the Celebrity Cipher cryptograms by Luis Campos which were featured as puzzles in newspapers since 1981.

Each Celebrity Cipher was a simple substitution cipher which could be solved to reveal a quotation from a famous person.

However, the meaning of the Celebrity Cypher is open to interpretation.

There have been different ideas about the solution to the Celebrity Cypher.

Lyndon Lafferty's Solution to the Celebrity Cypher

Lyndon Lafferty obtained a copy of the Celebrity Cypher from a Vallejo police officer.

In 1995, Lyndon Lafferty used the substitution method from the Zodiac's three-part 408-symbol cipher combined with anagrams to provide a solution to the Celebrity Cypher.

Lyndon Lafferty's solution to the Celebrity Cypher was included in the 2012 book "The Zodiac Killer Cover-Up: The Silenced Badge".

AK Wilks's Solution to the Celebrity Cypher

In 2009, AK Wilks used the substitution method from the Zodiac's three-part 408-symbol cipher combined with anagrams to suggest a solution to the Celebrity Cypher.

Rubislaw32's Solution to the Celebrity Cypher

In 2016, Rubislaw32 revealed a solution to the Celebrity Cypher.

In a variation from the previous solutions, Rubislaw32's solution includes symbols which may be hidden behind the postage stamp. Rubislaw32 claims that there are actually 65 symbols in the Celebrity Cypher.

Here is Rubislaw32's solution to the Celebrity Cypher.

Solution to the Celebrity Cypher by Rubislaw32

Rubislaw32's Analysis of this Solution to the Celebrity Cypher

Zodiac speaks again, and this time it's in French!

(1) After the only mark of punctuation (a comma), the second half of this solution is in French.

(2) "SP" is open to interpretation.

"SP" may refer to "San Francisco Police" or "Secret Pal".

This entire solution in "loose" English, reads:

Noble pleasure loses a love, "busboys", for a game (now) without its knackered "San Francisco Police" - the "noble pleasure".

or

Noble pleasure loses a love, "busboys", for a game (now) without its knackered "Secret Pal" - the "noble pleasure".

(3) This solution yields no use of the personal pronoun. Indeed, this solution does not employ the alphabetic letter "i" at all. Perhaps this is a dig at the analysts who noted the Zodiac's overuse of the word "i" in previous messages.

(4) By inference of the whole message, those symbols that are obscured behind the postage stamp read:

MRZodiac - which implies the shortened form of "Mister Zodiac".

MRZodiac's solvency materializes into SON.

SON - which means "its" (of itself) in French, but "single male progeny" in English,

i.e. MRZodiac = SON

(5) Two curious words emerge from the message:

(A) busboys: a word used mostly in American culture, referring to the lowest ranking members of staff at a restaurant. Busboys are employed to clear tables and sweep floors, and carry out other menial tasks.

(B) nase: a French word meaning "stupid", "tired", or "knackered". The word "knackered" is primarily employed in British English, meaning "tired" or "without testicles".

(6) A curious phrase "noble pleasure" also emerges from the message. The phrase "noble pleasure" was referred to by Frederick the Great (1712-1786), King of Prussia and famed military tactician, who is quoted thus:

"The greatest and noblest pleasure which men can have in this world is to discover new truths, and the next is to shake off old prejudices."

Frederick The Great is also accorded the quote:

"Every man has a wild beast within him."

(7) The "noble pleasure" within the content of the message, is the thrill of the "game" ("jeu") which constitutes the nefarious antics related to "SP". "SP" may refer to either "San Francisco Police" or "Secret Pal". It appears that Zodiac may well have been prompted to write this cryptic message, in the light of announced cutbacks of police allocations to the Zodiac case, in the San Francisco vicinity, since it seems that he is aware that the thrill of the "game" would no longer be available to him anyway. Whatever his thinking at the time of creating the cipher, he clearly feels a form of "victory".

(8) One might be mistaken if, having solved the first half of the cipher, that Frederick The Great will emerge as the "poetic solution". As it transpires, the real celebrity is none other than Zodiac himself - or "Mister Zodiac", as he reveals, hiding behind the postage stamp, all along!

The Solution to the Celebrity Cypher

The reader may use their own judgement to analyze each proposed solution to the Celebrity Cypher.

Anagrams were used in Lyndon Lafferty's solution and AK Wilks's solution.

Anagrams were not used in the Zodiologists, Alexander Heck and Roland Heck's solution and Rubislaw32's solution.

Lyndon Lafferty's solution and AK Wilks's solution were based upon the solution to the Zodiac's three-part 408-symbol cipher.

The Zodiologists, Alexander Heck and Roland Heck's solution was a poem which is reminiscent of the poem on the desk at Riverside which was speculated to have been written by the Zodiac.

Rubislaw32's solution included a reference to a quotation from a famous person.

Each original Celebrity Cipher cryptogram by Luis Campos was a quotation from a famous person.
